The Transformation of Finabank to a Performance-first Enterprise


Finabank, a prominent financial service provider in Suriname, offers a wide range of world-class products for retail and corporate customers. In 2023, the bank faced a significant challenge as it experienced a massive 60 percent increase in transactions. This surge pushed their core banking platforms to their limits, causing significant performance issues that began to impact the bank's growth.

Faced with these severe performance risks, the bank discovered Performetriks and our Observability services for Temenos customers. We installed the Dynatrace AI-powered solution on the T24 Core Banking, Online Banking, Point of Sale, and Fraud Management production environments a few weeks later.

 

C-Level support

Finabank's leadership team fully supported the observability journey from the Dynatrace POC through deployment and continuous performance improvements. Following a mission of performance should not impact Finabank's growth; observability and performance optimization are everyone's matters now.

 

Performance Sprints

We documented performance and security findings in Jira and established monthly performance sprints. Problems identified in Dynatrace become tickets in Jira. During our weekly performance sprint sessions, Performance experts from Performetriks and Service owners from Finabank review suggested improvements and close completed tickets.

 

Observability to Mitigate Performance and Security Risks

Following an observability-first approach, we integrated OneAgents into all applications on UAT and Production. Since security and performance problems are equally crucial for Finabank, we have enabled full-stack tracing and application security modules.

 

Observability Targets

Finabank integrated performance and observability targets into the IT team's personal development plans to ensure performance became a matter for everyone. This way, the team adopted observability practices much faster because they are fundamental to their day-to-day activities.

 

Risk Management

Finabank's ICT team also turned to Dynatrace in 2024 because they realized that tracking IT KPIs requires real-time insights, which are available in the Observability platform out of the box.

 

Vulnerability Scans

Having performance and security insights in a single platform removes the barriers and brings security closer to where it matters most. Security becomes a topic for service owners, speeding up issue resolution and creating transparency for the entire team.

 

Point of Sales Observability

On a journey to better user experience, Finabank replaced their POS terminals with a new Mobile solution in 2024. We integrated Dynatrace into this new POS Android-based platform to get insights about which terminals and merchants are using the devices and discover business metrics about successful and failed payments to identify technical issues before they impact Finabank's POS customers.

 

Focus on growth

Within six months, Finabank transformed into a performance-first enterprise. This transformation benefited both clients and bank staff. Finabank can focus on its growth without performance being an issue, and its clients will enjoy an outstanding user experience.
